Overview of international cooperation in Da Nang City

By the end of 2020, Da Nang City had established cooperative relationships through the signing of memoranda of understanding with 45 localities in 20 countries and territories, as well as developed a variety of cooperative programs with hundreds of foreign localities.

Not only does our city build solid international friendship, but it also implements various local cooperation programs which have brought practical benefits to the City.

The City has built relationships with many major economic and financial organizations such as the World Bank (WB), Asian Development Bank (ADB), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), international development agencies of foreign countries, international investment funds and large corporations. Many official development assistance projects and technology and experience transfer projects funded by international organizations have contributed to the socio-economic development of the City.

Trade promotion, investment, and tourism have expanded in several markets with investment and tourism promotion seminars held in many foreign countries while the city also actively participates in many foreign trade fairs. The City has become a respected MICE tourism destination after successfully organizing the APEC Summit 2017. Trade fairs and investment forums in Da Nang, including Spring Seminar and East-West Economic Corridor Fair, have become venues for product promotion and learning about the City’s reliable investment environment for foreign investors .

Da Nang has hosted major international sporting and cultural events such as the 5th Asia Beach Games and Clipper Round the World Sailing Race 2015–2016. Festivals organized by the City such as the International Fireworks Festival and Vietnam-Japan Cultural Exchange Festival attract a large number of international visitors. These festivals support Da Nang in building an international image.

The City contributes to important multilateral forums such as the Regional Network of Local Governments Human Settlement Management (CityNet), World Cities Summit, East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC), and Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). Da Nang promotes initiatives for international organizations, forums, and networks and also takes advantage of cooperation programs supporting city development goals such as the Asian Science Parks Association (ASPA), Asia Oceania Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO), World Smart Cities Organization (WeGO), ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN), and 100-Cities Program resistance (100RC)Other international cooperation activities such as education, -technology, entrepreneurship, innovation, and security–defense have also been promoted.
